About Medical Device Manufacturing

The trade publication for the people who make medical devices, with public FDA data rendered as a usable product, a supplier directory and a referral desk.

What this is

Medical Device Manufacturing is a trade publication for the people who make medical devices: manufacturing and process engineering, quality and validation, packaging, sterilization and microbiology, supply chain and procurement, and plant leadership. It is written for the person running a line, a validation or a cleanroom, not for the person selling to them.

Three layers sit on the same site and feed each other.

  • The publication. News, regulatory coverage and manufacturing practice, written for the factory floor, and public FDA clearance, recall, product code, registration and listing records rendered as pages, each carrying the export date it was built from and a link to the FDA record behind it.
  • The directory. A listing of the industry in three wings: companies that make devices, companies that make devices for others, and companies that supply both. Membership is free, permanent and unlimited.
  • The referral desk. A private routed desk that sends real sourcing requests to matched members. It is never a public board.

Incumbent titles in this industry skew toward design, business news and regulatory affairs. None is written for the factory floor, none puts public FDA data in a usable form, and none runs a curated desk. That combination is the reason this exists.

Who publishes it

Medical Device Manufacturing is published by Life Science Outsourcing, Inc. Editorial decisions are made independently of sponsors.

Life Science Outsourcing is a medical device contract manufacturer, which means the publisher is also a participant in the industry the publication covers. Three things follow from that, and all three are stated rather than left to be discovered.

  • The service categories Life Science Outsourcing serves are publisher served. Requests in those categories route to the publisher alone. The categories are named on the network rules page.
  • In every other category the publisher is an ordinary member with the same routing rules, the same verification and the same labels as anyone else.
  • Editorial coverage of Life Science Outsourcing is supplier news like any other, held to the same sourcing rules.

Who writes it

This publication is written and edited by Life Science Outsourcing, Inc., and a piece runs under the publication’s own byline, Medical Device Manufacturing. Life Science Outsourcing, Inc. answers for what this site publishes.

A writer is named here when a piece runs under that writer’s own byline, with an author page that says what the writer covers.

How we work

The method is short: named sources, primary sources linked, standards cited by number and year, no vendor adjectives, sponsored and contributed content labeled, corrections published. It is written out on the ethics policy page.

FDA data here follows a rule of its own: every data page carries the FDA export date it was built from and links to the specific FDA record behind it, so any figure on this site can be checked against the source it came from.
